Inside College Admissions

In this program, Kate will approach the college selection process from the point of view of an admissions counselor and provide insight on how these professionals approach the task of reviewing applications.  By offering some basic steps to begin the college search and expanding awareness of the admissions model Kate will aim to alleviate some of the anxiety involved and allow families to begin a constructive discourse on how to make the best college choice.

Presenter: Kate is the owner of Balboni College Advising and a certified New Jersey School Counselor. She served as an admissions counselor for Drew University and as a regional admissions coordinator at the University of South Carolina.  During her time in undergraduate admissions she has reviewed thousands of applications and student essays, conducted hundreds of student interviews, and visited over 50 college campuses throughout the nation.

We will spend the first half of the meeting reading in companionable silence (no required reading – bring any book or pick one up at the library). During the second half of the meeting, we’ll chat about what we’ve read recently, eat some snacks, and decide what we want next month to look like!

No registration needed, just drop in! Newcomers are always welcome!

This event is intended only for ages 13-18. Those younger than 13, should check out our Kids Book Club for ages 8-12, Comic Book Club for ages 6-12, My First Book Club for ages 5-8, or our Silent Book Clubs at Starbucks and the Stirling Fountain for all ages.
