We also have multiplayer Nintendo Switch games (i.e. Mario Party Superstars, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros) if you want to play Switch with your family on the large television in the Library’s Meeting Room. No registration required.

Our favorite AI speaker, Eddi Khaytman, will discuss how AI tools can simplify your daily tasks, enhance productivity, and bring a new level of efficiency to both personal and professional endeavors will be presented at the workshop.

A beloved LHT Library patron, Elaine Shaub, loved to write.  She would come to the library to free her mind and write her stream of consciousness.  Writing is a good vehicle to express one’s thoughts and ideas and is a way to relax for many.  Sadly, Elaine passed away in April of this year and in her memory the LHT Library invites community residents to be part of the newly formed Elaine’s Peacock Writers Group.  Inspiration, guidance, support and gentle critiques will be offered at the monthly meetings.  Experience is not necessary, only the desire to put pen to paper and write.  Tools required: pen and paper, tablet or laptop — whatever helps the writing process.  All are welcome — what is shared in the group, stays in the group!

Do you often stress about grades, school performance, and/or sports obligations? Do you worry about the status of your friendships and if/how you fit in? Do you get overwhelmed by intense emotions?

If you answered yes (or even sometimes) to any of these questions, then this talk is for you!

Being a teenager is an exciting and ever-evolving time in one’s development. However, in today’s world of high-pressure academics and sports, demands to keep up with social trends, and the arduous task of balancing real-world and virtual experiences, adolescence can also lead to increased stress and anxiety. Despite these challenges, teenagers are in an extraordinary position to develop autonomy and engage in self-exploration, which allows them to work through hardship and effectively cope with stress. In this discussion, Dr. Stacie Shivers will share strategies to help teens identify signs and triggers for stress and anxiety, learn skills to manage overwhelming emotions, and discover tools to build confidence and strength while navigating life as an adolescent. These strategies are beneficial in supporting growth, developing skills that foster self-esteem and self-assurance, and they can provide opportunities to help teens thrive when faced with difficult situations.

Dr. Stacie Shivers is a clinical psychologist licensed in New Jersey and New York, and a New Jersey certified school psychologist.  She has experience working in a variety of settings, including hospitals, community mental health centers, schools, and in private practice. She is the owner and founder of Balanced Insight, a private practice located in Westfield, NJ where she treats children, adolescents, and adults presenting with a variety of emotional, behavioral, and social challenges

The LHT Library is having a vintage typewriter event! Odd Birds Typoriam and Alan Typinski will supply antique manual typewriters for you to write on, explore, and engage with!  Stationery will be provided as well as writing prompts and on-site typewriter experts to answer questions.  Come in and type your own haiku. Write a love letter. Send grandmother a birthday note. This could be the start of writing your own novel!  Maybe bring your old typewriter in for a show-and-tell (or a quick on the spot repair!)  You can also preview some of these fascinating machines in the display cases at the Library throughout the month of October.

Celebrate 100 years of service for the Long Hill Township Police Department and join us to learn more on the department’s early beginnings as constables to our modern day officers who aid and protect us today.

This presentation will be in-person at the LHT Library but also available to join on Zoom.
