Hours & Holiday Closings

Library Hours
Mon – Thurs 10 am – 8 pm
Fri 10 am – 5 pm
Sat 10 am – 2 pm
Sun 1 pm – 5 pm (Closed in July & August)

Adult Services Librarian

Long Hill Township Library

Job Summary

Would you describe yourself as a dynamic and enthusiastic library professional? Do you enjoy working with computers and other emerging technologies? The Long Hill Twp Library is looking for an enthusiastic full-time adult services librarian to provide reference and other library services for the general public. You’ll assist the Library Director in supervising and overseeing the smooth operation of the library and deal with most day-to-day issues independently. We’re looking for a generalist – a jack of all trades – a polymath – a renaissance person, if you will, who can do everything with a smile and a spring in their step.

Essential Functions of the Job

  • Collection Development
  • Adult Program Planning
  • Technology Management
  • Outreach /  Publicity / Marketing
  • Reference and Reader’s Advisory
  • Training and instruction
  • Prepare monthly statistical reports
  • Keep staff informed and up-to-date on new resources,  including both print and online resources
  • Keep abreast of current trends in the profession
  • Evaluate current library services and make recommendations for change
  • Develop departmental goals on an informal basis
  • Assist with circulation duties and children’s reference and reader’s advisory when needed
  • Work cooperatively with Technical Services to provide direction for cataloging and processing


  • An ALA accredited degree (MLIS, MLS, MI) and NJ Professional Librarian Certification
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Superior computer skills
  • A passion for providing reference, reader’s advisory and technology
