About the Long Hill Township Library
Located in Morris County, New Jersey, and part of the Morris Automated Information Network, the Long Hill Library serves its constituent towns of Gillette, Meyersville, Millington and Stirling, as well as the surrounding local communities. Serving patrons and their families from newborns through high school students, the bustling Youth Services Department offers daily programs, outreach services to local organizations, support for township schools and education centers, and a collection of over 65,000 circulating materials.
The Long Hill Township Library is looking for a full-time Youth Services librarian to provide outstanding programs, community engagement and unparalleled customer service for all ages.
Duties & Responsibilities
Performs professional duties in the Youth Services Department under the supervision of the Library Director. Deals with the daily operation of the department independently, and within the scope of his/her authority and based upon library policy. Ensures the efficient and smooth operation of the Youth Services Department, with energy, creativity and innovation.
Other responsibilities of the position: collection development, budgeting, reference and reader’s advisory, year-round programming with a heavy emphasis during school breaks and summer months, outreach and publicity, and supervision of volunteers, as well as other duties as assigned by the Director.
Qualifications & Key Abilities
MLS/MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited school and have or are eligible for a Professional Librarian’s Certificate issued by the New Jersey Department of Education.
- The ability to multi-task and remain flexible under pressure, with a smile.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- A high level of comfort, autonomy and experience with planning and implementing programming for babies through college bound teens.
- Ability to relate with the public, as well as other employees, in a professional, approachable and considerate manner.
- An ability to maintain existing community outreach services and to develop new collaborations with local organizations.
- Must be tech savvy, and experienced with promoting library services through local media, web-based channels and social media.
- Participates in professional development to remain current and pursue future library trends.
This is a 35 hour per week position that will include weekdays, evenings, and a rotating weekend schedule.
